It provide just enough support for a child who sits well on his/her own. My children are able to get in and out themselves by crawling up the foot rest. This chair is the same design as the "Special Tomato" chair for children with mild to moderate physical disabilities. My son with Spina Bifida, who uses a wheelchair but sits independently and can stand with support, uses this chair. The Keekaroo is actually a little sturdier than the Special Tomato which costs twice as much. (I have one of each.) I highly recommend this for anyone searching for an alternative to a booster seat or for an adapted chair for a child with disabilities. However, please note that it is not appropriate for a child who does a lot of rocking as it can be tipped over. The base is as sturdy as a high chair but a large child vigorously rocking back and forth will tip it over.

She would arch her back, squirm and otherwise get fussy in less than 15 minutes. Now, maybe I didn't adjust these other chairs correctly. They were the plastic types that you see all over they place. I wanted a wood chair, with a smaller foot-print and one that would be adjustable as she grows. That wasn't too hard to find, but I also didn't want to blow $400. Especially if she wasn't going to be comfortable.Pull the trigger on this one, just on a hunch for a promotion price on their website. There were only a handful of reviews, but I LOVED the fact that it was fully returnable.. even if I put it together and tried it for a few days. So, I got the chair, with a free tray and then purchased the new comfort cushions in chocolate.OK, easy to put together, nice simple design and the cushions are firm by very squishy and can wipe clean without much effort. And the best part.. my daughter easily sits in in for about an hour (so far), with no complaints. She's 6-months mind ya. But, just happy as could be, gets fed and then watches the hub-bub in the kitchen or plays with some toys on the tray.My only point of improvement I'd design: The seat cushion has only one cut out for the crotch strap, but no cut outs for the back hip straps. So, the back straps have to reach up and around the seat and cushion before they can go around a child. This leaves little slack for the kid. So, I guess you could make the straps longer, but the better option is just cut out slats in the cushion that match the slats in the wood seat. But, with the tray I usually don't use the strap. Great tray design, it's snug without being overly confining.
